Mar 4, 1949 - A P2V-3C Neptune of VC-5 takes off with the aid of JATO boosters. Captain John T. Hayward was at the controls which weighed 74,100 pounds including a 8,600 pound dummy Little Boy pumpkin nuclear bomb. Captain Hayward's Neptune flew across the country, dropped its "bomb" on a test site at Muroc, California, and then returned across the United States to land at Patuxent River, Maryland.
